07.09 - Expert Briefing - OnDemand

On Wednesday, July 1st the U.S. Departments of State, Commerce, Homeland Security, and Treasury issued an advisory on the risks and considerations for businesses with supply chain exposure to entities involved in forced labor and other human rights abuses in Xinjiang, a region in far northwest China that has been the subject of state-backed repression campaigns.

Businesses with potential exposure in their supply chains to the Xinjiang region of China should be aware of the reputational, economic, and legal risks of involvement with entities engaged in human rights abuses, including the potential of forced labor in the manufacturing process, according to the advisory. The organizations undertaking the due diligence practices should be aware of reports of auditors being detained, threatened, harassed and subjected to surveillance related to their work investigating the issue.

During the Kharon Expert Briefing, Kharon’s experts discuss the implications of the new advisory and use case studies to illustrate how international companies may be linked to entities in Xinjiang through their supply chains.
